Elves Night Out - December 7th
The Canajoharie Palatine Chamber of Commerce's 2012 Elves Night out celebration takes place on Friday December 7th. This popular annual event kicks off the Holiday season in the two historic villages of Canajoharie and Palatine Bridge every year. Residents and visitors enjoy a visit with Santa, horse drawn carriage rides, caroling, and early Christmas Shopping at the many shops in the revitalized downtown areas. The streets are thronged with elves, kids and families from the entire region. All are invited to consult with Santa, browse the shops, and enjoy arts and crafts, music and refreshments. The entire town comes together to make the celebration happen, including the chamber, local churches, and the Arkell Museum. “Our annual celebration has been growing and growing each year and this year we plan to make it even better with two new exciting features”, said Dolores Jacksland, president of the Canajoharie Palatine Chamber of Commerce. “It all starts at 4:30 pm when Santa arrives at the Post Office to receive his letters and discuss them with the children”
The new features mentioned by Jacksland include a “Ringing of the Bells for the Elves” and a large Gingerbread Christmas Village.
Many of the historic buildings and churches in the area will participate in a synchronized chiming of their bells and carillons. Starting with a proclamation by Canajoharie Central School District Superintendent Deborah Grimshaw and Eric Trehan at 5:30pm the sound of bells will begin at the Village Park Christmas Tree and then will move in turn from one church or building to another on both sides of the river. A different bell will be heard from a different direction every 30 seconds for about 10 minutes during this part of the evening.
